How To Choose a Tablecloth Size
Be it a celebration with friends, a romantic rendezvous, or a relaxing dinner for one, a beautiful linen tablecloth is the perfect staple that can compliment a variety of occasions. Choosing the wrong size tablecloth, however, can seriously mess up your table setting. To prevent this from happening, follow our simple tablecloth measuring guide.
Measure your tabletop
First, use a measuring tape to measure the length and width of your tabletop from edge to edge. Don’t forget to add the leaf if you plan to have some additional guests.
Determine tablecloth drop
Your next step is to determine the desired length of your tablecloth - the tablecloth drop. The length of the drop is defined by your taste, the occasion, and the look you want to achieve. A standard drop for a casual table setting is between 6 and 10 inches (15-25 cm), while drops for formal settings are slightly longer, usually between 8 and 12 inches (20-30 cm).
Calculate the width and length of your tablecloth
Once you’ve decided the desired length of the drop, multiply this figure by two and add it to the length and width of your table. Here’s the formula:
Table length + (drop length x 2) = tablecloth length
Table width + (drop length x 2) = tablecloth width
For example, if your tabletop measures 40” wide x 60” long and you want a drop of 8”, add 16” (8x2) to the length, and 16” to the width. Thus, the tablecloth should measure 56” wide x 76” long.
Now that you have the right measurements figured out, you can get to the fun part - shopping. Our linen tablecloths are available in various colors and sizes.
